Everybody needs laptop computers it seems. How did we live without them? I fear that like last year we will have problems getting the latest technology too. It doesn’t look like anything will hinder the rise of laptops at present. The technology intervals are so small too which makes it all the more of an up hill struggle.

Gaming laptops have recently been attracting a lot of interest. If you’re a games player with a tiny budget the great thing is that you can get a gaming notebook a lot cheaper now because the longevity is declining. In my opinion laptops are actually good for gaming. Performance is far greater than before. A few of the issues like heat and noise still are present to an extent but hardly in the average systems. The cases are also fairly slim. Power of computers should infinitely be a distance ahead of laptops but its still inspiring to see. It’s a segment to keep an eye on as potential customers are looking for smaller, more powerful systems all the time.

Custom built laptops have been about for a great length of time now and despite big companies selling pre-built laptops through stores it seems like there will constantly be computer assemblers out there prepared to put together something specific to your desires. I feel the parts are more credible and operate better. In most cases you can specify all the core parts you desire and this is most suited to gamers, professional and power users. Those laptop computers seen in shops are for typical activities. So hence this is why you need a custom laptop. I’m really awaiting to see what portables come to market next. Except from what has already been spoken of UMPC’s are another big product witnessing a rise this year. Hoodia is a genus in the plant family Apocynaceae. Advertisements which reference the appetite suppressing abilities of the hoodia plant are referring to the hoodia gordonii species. This is the only species on which research has been done to this date. Any website, nursery or other company which advertises that they have a hoodia plant for sale is referring to the typical garden variety of hoodia plant.

Though the hoodia plant is commonly referred to as a cactus, it is actually a succulent. Succulents and cacti are very similar plants and it is relatively difficult for anyone other than a botanist to tell the difference. There are a few differences which may help consumers distinguish the hoodia plant from some form of cactus. The major one is country of origin. The hoodia plant has been placed on a protected status due to the large publicity it has received for its natural appetite suppressing abilities. Many South African farmers have begun to cultivate the hoodia plant for sale to health supplement companies throughout the world. A special license is required to export the hoodia plant, since wild stands are practically depleted. This is referred to as a CITES certification. Most health supplement companies which are licensed to export hoodia gordonii will display their CITES certification in order to support the claim that their product contains genuine hoodia gordonii. This became necessary after several companies offering hoodia for sale were found to be scammers.

Another factor which may help a consumer distinguish between the gordonii variety of the hoodia plant and some other hoodia plant for sale is price. Currently, as of April 2006, sources say that authentic hoodia gordonii is selling for $300/kg on the open market. This price is expected to go up as supplies become more and more limited. The gordonii species of the hoodia plant is difficult to grow and requires four or five years to reach maturity. It also has a very strong smell. Some companies are developing their own hoodia plantations in Africa to guarantee their continued supply of product.

Every household with young children should possess a clinical thermometer. Young children, especially babies and infants, cannot properly describe their symptoms when they become ill. Many childhood diseases are associated with a raised temperature, sometimes inadequately described as a ‘fever’.

The term ‘fever‘ means different things to different people and I prefer to refer to a ‘raised temperature‘. Serious diseases such as encephalitis and viral and bacterial meningitis start off with fairly simple symptoms. Take measles, for examples. Measles can kill young children, and if it does not, can leave them with serious side-effects or complications such as hearing and visual defects, learning difficulties and brain damage.

The initial symptoms of measles are similar to those of a cold. A runny nose, a bit of a sniffle, a cough and eventually a sore throat. Temperature also rises to over 38 Celsius (100.4 Fahrenheit). If you think that your child has measles, or if temperatures stays at or goes over 38 Celsius, you should inform your doctor immediately.

If you do not have a clinical thermometer, you cannot determine the child’s temperature! You may notice your child becoming a bit flushed, and may feel warmer than normal to the touch. However, it is far better to be able to measure this accurately. With measles, the temperature starts to drop after a day or two, then increases again as the spots appear and go as high as 40C (104F). You should definitely have contacted a doctor by then, but if you have no thermometer you may not have noticed the increase in temperature.

In many cases the temperature increase is the only indication that your child has more than just a cough and a runny nose. There are various types of thermometer available suitable for children. The old glass type with the kink is not recommended for young children. Digital thermometers are better, though disposable ones in the form of plastics strips with temperature sensitive dots are very useful. One side is self adhesive to stick to the skin under the armpit and the dots change colour at different temperatures. They can be used while the child is asleep and are disposable or re-usable for a certain period of time.

An alternative safe method to this is the ear thermometer which measures the infrared heat emission from the eardrum. An infrared probe is inserted into the ear and the temperature measured. This is safe because the probe is too short to reach the eardrum, and is larger than an infants ear canal. This is the type of system employed in hospitals, and is available for purchase either online or from good pharmacies for from around £30 ($50). Forehead thermometers are also available, and traditional glass rectal thermometers can be used with infants by trained staff.

SIX TIPS FOR THINKING ON YOUR FEET

1. Trust yourself and others. Learn to go with your gut and trust your ideas. Take this advice from Improvisational Comedians, “If you feel your feet moving – follow them!” Do the same for your work colleagues.

2. Develop a “yes, and…” mentality. Don’t negate or deny ideas. Get rid of “yes, but …” Accept the information that comes to you and work with it.

3. Be in the moment. Remember to listen, watch and concentrate. You have to pay attention! Don’t worry about past failures or attempts at thinking on your feet – think in present-tense only.

4. Accept new ideas without judgement. See where the new idea takes you.

5. Make actional choices. In Improv, you would go somewhere or do something. By taking action, you increase your focus. Do the same in business!

6. Work to the top of your intelligence. Challenge yourself to see what you can discover. Try not to create a box that isn’t there.

Thinking on your feet is child’s play. Literally. Next time you are around children watch how they take in new information and move quickly to make changes to what they are doing. They are all mini-experts at thinking on their feet.

If you want to be the MacGyer of your workplace, try these tips and remember, be flexible, be open to the possibilities, and be ready to have fun. The next time the universe (or your boss!) drops a challenge in your lap, smile and say, “Bring it on!”

Too much agent … not enough prospect. It’s one of the most common mistakes in real estate marketing, especially with those new to the profession.

In your marketing, you should focus on putting your prospect first. That means you should identify the wants, needs and fears of your prospects, and address those things in your marketing. Make a strong offer. Solve their problems, answer their questions, and quell their fears.

Address these things before you say one word about your qualifications, your length of service, or any other personal attribute.

And while we’re at it, let’s address the elephant in the room. Let’s talk about multi-million dollar clubs, superstar performers, gold star agents, and similar accolades:

1. They may impress other real estate agents, but they won’t impress your prospects.

2. They put you at risk of alienating certain audiences with lesser income levels.

3. They smack of ego and self-importance.

4. They shift the focus from the prospect to the marketer.

5. They’re ill-timed and therefore ineffective (too much, too soon).

What do the above five points share in common? They fly in complete contrast to proven marketing principles.

I know what you’re thinking: “But my prospects need to know I’ve been successful in the past.” And you’re right. The question is … when do they need to know it? Right off the bat? Do you really need to hit them between the eyeballs with your super-platinum-awesome-club membership status before you’ve even offered them something of value?

Ask yourself what you really want your marketing message to accomplish. Do you want it to convince prospects of your superior service? Or do you simply want it to persuade them to contact you?

If you’re a smart marketer, you’ll focus on the second goal — to get them to contact you. That’s an objective you can actually achieve through marketing. So use a strong, valuable offer to get them to call you.

Then you can invite them down to your office, or offer to stop by and chat with them. Then you can share some of your (relevant) success stories.

Focus too heavily on your credentials at the expense of ignoring your prospects’ needs, and you will not be the first agent they call. Goodbye listing or purchase.

Let the others shout about their millions of dollars and elite statuses. Choose instead to spend your time developing a whopper of an offer and focusing on your prospects’ needs, fears and desires. Make it a point to harvest those critical first phone calls. See who comes out on top.

Renowned copywriter and marketer Bob Bly echoed the sentiment in his book, The Elements of Copywriting: “When writing copy, start with the prospect, not the product. Your prospects are interested primarily in themselves — their goals, their problems, their needs, their hopes, their fears, and their dreams.”

Preparation: 15 minutes
Cooking: 8 minutes
Serves: 4

Ingredients:
7oz/200 g rindless bacon, chopped
cup walnut haves, roughly chopped
1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
cup fresh lime juice
sale and ground black pepper
6oz/150g baby spinach, trimmed and washed
3 ripe Roma (egg) tomatoes, diced
1 large ripe avocado, halved, peeled, seed removed and sliced
1 small red onion, very thinly sliced

Directions:
1. Heat a non-tick frying pay over medium high heat. Add bacon and cook, stirring occasionally, for 3-4 minutes or until crisp. Remove bacon and set aside to cool.

2. Add walnuts to pan and cook over medium-high heat for 2-3 minutes or until lightly toasted. Remove with a slotted spoon to a plate and set aside.

3. Add oil and lime juice to pan. Season with salt and pepper to taste and stir to combine.

4. Combine spinach, tomatoes, avocado, onion, bacon and walnuts in a large serving bowl. Pour warm lime dressing over salad and toss gently to combine. Serve immediately.
