A Low Carb Diet

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

Diets, Diets, Diets. The list of diets is beyond counting these days. One type of diet is a low carb diet. The thing about diets is that some people don’t even know what the diet actually means and does for them. All they care about is those pounds on the scale counting down.

Low carb diets are know for limiting the carbohydrates that you eat. Carbohydrates include bread, grains, rice, and starchy foods. Low carb diets also want you to emphasize on eating protein and fats. A lot of low carb diets restrit what types of food and the amount of food that you eat.

The purpose of low carb diets is to loos weight, but it also helps you feel better. Low carb diets are chosen because of the availabilty of the diet. Some of the well known low carb diets that are available are the Atkins diet, the Protein Power diet, and the Zone diet.

Think about what a low carb diet actually is doing. Carbohydrates are known for raising your blood sugar levels, making insulin begin. The idea of the low carb diets is with the insulin driving blood sugar into the cells so that it will prevent breaking down the body. Basically, carbohydrates are what cause you to gain weight and the low carb diets help you not to gain weight

Depending on the type of low carb diet that you choose, the approach can be different. The idea behind the diets are the same, but how to get to that idea depends on what you eat and how you live your life while on the low carb diet. Always remember that is is smart to talk to your doctor before starting a new diet. You want your doctor to know the changes so that if you have any health concerns, they will be able to help guide you to the appropriate diet. If you don’t want to speak to a doctor, try to contact a dietician for help with your need.

Growing Trends of the Mobile Phone Industry

Friday, January 30th, 2009

The ever-changing mobile communications industry is again transforming consumer perception of telephony on-the-move. We’ve come a long way since the 80’s “brick like” model that gave us the freedom to move away from dingy payphones. In fact, mobile phones today serve a completely new purpose. No longer is it solely about the need to contact a friend, colleague or family member at any time or place. What reaches out to the majority of consumers today is the uniqueness of a handset; as mobile technology becomes fashion accessory. Constant advancements in technologies ensure we’re spoilt for choice, with the capacity to personalise almost every aspect of a mobile phone.

Consumers have been groomed to demand an increasingly high standard of functionality in their mobile phones. The good news for mobile phone suppliers is that this ensures handset replacement is rapid, as research and development evolves the phone into a personal organiser, music player, camera and mobile entertainment centre. We want to enjoy games, video clips and music from our phones and the mobile music industry in particular is going from strength to strength. As a result mobile phone giants, such as Sony Ericsson, are exploiting demand with the imminent release of the W800i, an advanced walkman phone with CD ripping software http://www.sonyericsson.com.

It will be interesting to see how such sophisticated phone models will compete against the competitive and fashion-conscious portable MP3 player market. Although products such as Apple’s iPod have taken off significantly and seem to be in everyone’s pocket, three years since the launch of Apple’s high profile MP3 player, is the Californian firm facing competition from an increasing number of industry sectors? Sceptics believe the latest addition from the Apple team, the iPod shuffle, is a disappointment, so will consumers look elsewhere for innovation?

Image is a crucial factor that mobile phone providers should take into consideration. Consumers are concerned with the way in which a product can reflect their personal identity. Therefore the design of a mobile phone is important. Phones that look the part are highly favoured. As a result, mobile phones now come in all shapes, sizes and colours. Some companies, who want to encourage consumer engagement at an early age, have extended their marketing campaigns to include targeting children with brightly coloured mobiles featuring flashing lights http://fireflymobile.com.

If this was not enough, many consumers go to extensive lengths to find the most up-to-date ringtones and screensavers. Consequently, a myriad of websites now exist specifically to cater for this growing market. Examples include 1st Choice Ringtones (http://www.1st-choice-ringtones.co.uk) and Mobile Ringtonez http://www.mobileringtonez.com.” Modern consumers are no longer satisfied with the traditional “ring ring”. Downloadable tones can range from classical music to the latest chart toppers. The public have generally responded positively to such a vast selection, with the exception of the “crazy frog” which is the first ringtone to make it into the UK singles chart (and receive several hundred complaints) due to a very aggressive television advertising campaign. The kids apparently love it, but not everyone is happy!

The mobile phone industry is certain to continue evolving, with some research suggesting that one day phones will take the place of credit cards and the remote control. The innovation and level of competition in the mobile music and mobile phone markets can only mean greater choice and lower competitive prices, so sit back and look forward to the exciting surprises the key players in this industry have to offer us!

QVC Infomercial: Star in a Famous Person’s Infomercial

Monday, January 26th, 2009

Not many people are qualified to have their own infomercial. You have to be a great mediagenic salesperson, have a product with large profit margins that appeals to millions, and fits into a category that is already a known, successful seller.

But you can star in an infomercial of someone already established. Being a part of a profitable infomercial can bring you opportunities you never even imagined. This is the story of Donna Richards who was chosen out of 160 hand-picked people to get the part to help promote Tony Robbins’ *Get the Edge*, one of his popular core programs.

Robbins has already transformed the lives of over 3 million people in over 80 countries. His reach is huge. A Tony Robbins infomercial airs somewhere in the world every 12 and one-half minutes and has done so for the past 7 years. That’s the kind of publicity that money can’t buy.

Here are some requirements that Richards fulfilled to get the starring role in a Tony Robbin’s infomercial. If you follow these tips you, too, have a chance to get your product out to millions of TV viewers all over the globe — using someone else’s money, prestige, power — and air-time.

1. You have a dramatic story about how a product changed your life.

The story needs to have big highs and lows. My client, Donna Richards, author of *My Brother’s Keeper, A Kindergartner’s View of Autism* (http://www.mybrotherskeeper.biz) was already rich when a woman employee was shot in one of the two pawn shops she owned. Almost overnight Donna lost both businesses and became bankrupt. She went to hear Tony Robbins speak (for fr.e.e.), borrowed money to get his *Get the Edge* program and began putting her life back together.

She said, *I went from driving a $50,000 Lexis to counting pennies to scrape together 59 cents to buy a burrito for my son as a single mom.* She listened to *Get the Edge* on the way to her first job and on the way home from her second job, every day. Within a year she had bought a house, dumped an abusive husband, and was making 2 million a year in a new business. Is that a great testimonial to how well *Get the Edge* worked? The producer of Tony Robbins’ infomercial thought so.

2. Make the host look good.

Tie your success and the success of your business and product back to the host again and again. Donna and I worked on her story to incorporate all the different ways *Get the Edge* made a difference in her life. She discussed how, when the Doctors all told her what her autistic son, Justin, couldn’t do, she pushed through her frustration, anger and denial by using the Robbins’ technique of *Incantation* (In CAN tation) in the *Get the Edge* program.

While Doctors said Justin couldn’t talk, couldn’t go to regular school, couldn’t be anything but a retard, she proved them wrong on all accounts. She thanked the Robbins’ company for her fortitude and for the results that positively impacted her son, and her entire family.

3. Romance the producers.

The producers are often neglected because the focus is on the host, the star–but they do all the hard work behind the scenes. Give them gratitude–and gifts. Donna sent a big basket of chocolates and goodies to the producer after she made the cut. Who loves Donna now and would do anything for her?

Of course in addition to sending sumptuous stuff Donna did everything she was asked to with a smile. Like, drop everything (she works full time at her own business — now a 3 million dollar a year venture) to talk to the QVC attorneys for hours to make sure anything she was planning on saying was legally viable. Like, get the clothes that the producers requested so she’d be dressed appropriately for the set — and represent the Robbins’ product in the best possible light.

Like, get her story honed down to 6 minutes (which we went through a dozen times, timed it and actually got it down to 3 minutes) with the knowledge that she may need to change it on the spot as Tony likes to be spontaneous. The filming is live, so the pressure is great.

Do you want to know what it takes to pass a producer’s interview (their call to you) to get in an infomercial or on a TV talk show? Learn what they’re looking for so you can make the cut and sell your book, product, service or promote your business or cause. Go to:

Cyberspace Sports Gambling Keeps Gamblers Betting

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

Many modern bettors will have spotted the phrase “offshore sports betting”, but are not totally in the know what it implies. A foreign gaming site fundamentally functions outside the authority of any particular country or else it could be a net based sports betting web site running their servers inside the borders of a country where internet playing of games of chance is not forbidden. In short then, it is a gambling business operative outside the land of the consumer. Internet sports wagering websites are by and large modulated by 3 structures. These federations are OSGA (the Offshore Gaming Association), the IGC (Interactive Gaming Council) and finally the Fidelity Trust Gaming Association FTGA.

The OSGA is an independent “watchdog” agency which presently keeps tabs on the offshore sports gambling industry with the duty to also deliver gamers the capability to easily track down fair internet sites to play games on, without having to worry. It seeks to support customer’s rights, also they charge no annual charges.

The Offshore Gaming Association are a competent not to mention nonpartisan third party company who formulate equitable conclusions, established around your assessments, impartial analysis, telephone chats, prompts and also offers inside news.

The IGC is a nonprofit council. The agency has been created to allow a platform for involved participants to discuss subjects moreover to improve common concerns in the international web-based gaming trade, in an effort to establish honorable not to mention dutiful industry standard procedures and forms that improve consumer certainty in web based sports betting commodities and services, also to help as the betting industry’s inclusive procedure advisor and the Interactive Gaming Council also acts as a data hub.

The IGC has developed a distinction for advocating dependability, integrity and solidity due to the moral code it establishes, also its allure to business concerns of honorable practise. The IGC regulates overseas sports gambling through utilizing a special ten-point operational code and in addition bills betting internet sites a license fee for featuring the council’s logo. Frustrated betters can additionally mention any of their arguments to the Interactive Gaming Council.

The Fidelity Trust Gaming Association was established in an effort to compose a standard to reform the transactions of internet based betting operations. The council believe that carrying on business with sites of good standing, they are able to set up a federation of the most sportsmanlike and professional offshore betting companies all over the world.

These are governing bodies which watch the behavior practised by web based gaming and which should through time help to assuage most if not all of the insecurities held by betters. Networked betting websites are now consistently free from risk, beacuse private details are not demanded and the returns and the gaming odds are usually as equal and sportsmanlike as in your usual Vegas-style bet. They cut traveling time, but still retain the essence of a Vegas-style gaming web site, however nowadays you are enabled to gamble in your house.

When a Preacher Dies… What is a Minister?

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Dedicated to Pastor Chinna Dora who received the call from God and has gone to Paradise on 01.12.2005 03:00A.M.

Matthew 16:26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Ministers of the Gospel are sometimes forgotten, by the very fact that they are ministers.

Passed over for recognition for their indifference to the cares of this world, marked as strange for their un-tiring dedication to the truth of the Word of God. Men receive honor for sports, lititure, science, medicine, but who gives honor to the Ministers? No one.

Many believe that a minister is abundantly provided for by the abundance of God, for his service in the preaching of the word. This is not so. Preachers are men who endure hardships as our Saviour and the Disciples did, asking nothing but giving all. Going into harms way to deliver salvation to all who believe. Having tears of Joy for those that are saved and tears of loss for those that reject the truth.

Most times a thankless task do they perform, seeking only the will of God and the introduction of lost souls to the truth. Their thanks and reward is not on this earth but in a country that exist elsewhere, in time and space. For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country. A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.

What is their reward then?

Lets read; 1Co 9:18-23.

What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge ( Giving Freely what he has received freely.), that I abuse not my power in the gospel ( Taking no thought for power, as not being lord over his flock but as an example to them.).
For though I be free from all men ( as in the flesh.), yet have I made myself servant unto all ( within his spirit.), that I might gain the more.

And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law. To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.( Having understanding to the various troubles that face man in his search for the truth.

Having understanding of the false doctrines and hardships people face in just trying to survive day to day.) And this I do for the gospel’s sake ( As not for any gain nor prestige in this life, being a poor man with a heart of Gold.), that I might be partaker thereof with you.( as a so-joiner with them in a strange land.)

Who A minister of the Gospel?

A Minister of the Gospel is, A Man who installs great encouragement and insight. A Minister of the Gospel is, A Man who excites duty among those that will listen and believe the Gospel.

A Minister of the Gospel is, A Giver of them-selves, of hope, comfort, and joy. Preaching, You cannot fail if you run well.

A Minister of the Gospel is, A man who is a director of the course, by setting an example.

A Minister of the Gospel is, A Man who endures hardships and is a fighter of the enemy’s of the Cross.

A Minister of the Gospel is, A watcher of His own soul, lest by any means he himself, who had preached to others, should yet miss the crown, be disapproved and rejected by his sovereign Judge.

A minister of the Gospel is, A Man who does not allow his place with God to deter his humbleness that is Christ.

A minister of the Gospel is, A man who lives what he preaches, not as some hypocrites do in teaching one thing and doing another.

A minister of the Gospel is, A Man who believes that gain of worldly possessions are but a loss if He looses his sight of the Cross.

A minister of the Gospel is, A man who has forsaken all for the Glory of preaching the Gospel and for the Love of God.

A minister of the Gospel is, A Man who walks in power and might in the Spirit of the Holy Ghost.

Matthew 23:14 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.

Phi 3:7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.

Phi 1:20-26; According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.
For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not. For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better: Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you. And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith;
That your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again.

Heb 11:16 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city. (It is the duty of Christians to follow their ministers closely in the chase of eternal glory, and the honour and duty of ministers to lead them in the way, not for Gold nor Silver, nor for praise of Men but the praise of God.)

Do we morn over the loss of a Minister of God? Yes.

Do we miss a minister of God? Yes.

Do we Forget a departed Minister of God? Never.

How do we honor a Departed Minister of God? By remembering His work of Love, for the poor, the hungry, the naked, the Lost, and by carrying on His work. When His sun goes down on His ministry it arises on another’s.

The End of Work and a New Age: Building a Vision for Happiness

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

After 46 years of working non-stop for a variety of employers as an hour-for-salary employee, my vision for my future is to refocus (I don’t like retire) after my current employment contract ends.

Retirement for me occurs when one is either too ill or too frail to do anything; one simply fills in each day waiting to return to the great void from which we all come. Death that ends this life and returns us to our real existence as a non-physical entity. Of course, we don’t know whether we do in fact return to our “real” selves, or move to an alternative reality. For all we know, death might really be death … black, unfeeling, empty non-existence. But, hey, it’s not time for that yet. There’s a grandson, daughter, son and wife to love, friends to cherish, mountains to climb, red wine to drink … and another life to live. The life of refocusing!

That refocused life … the life of My Vision runs something like this:

I own my house, the stuff that fills it, and have sufficient money to live comfortably and have the occasional treat. Money, although not the main focus of my life, is attracted because of its necessity: no money, no fun!

My Internet business adds considerably to my pension income and occasionally I do a paid teaching session or presentation. Occasionally these are sessions I produce and at other times, sessions for others. These help me to keep my mind well tuned and to socialise with people.

There is always spare money with which to help my family or others less fortunate. My need for money these days relates only to subsistence, material belongings no longer influence me because I know they are both unnecessary and intransitory.

One day per week I help someone else, but I don’t believe in charity. Charity holds individuals back from achieving their true potential. As long as you keep doing for or giving to people, they will not grow and develop the skills to look after themselves. The evidence for this is plentiful, especially in the African countries. The way forward is to help people to help themselves.

Every day I exercise and because of my positive mental attitude, my health continues to be excellent. By expecting to be healthy and making an effort to exercise, eat well and ‘think’ healthy, I am feeling exceptionally well at any age.

My grandson Tory, is my new best friend. By now, we’ve known each other for seven years and even in that short time we’ve developed a deep love and rapport for each other that makes me feel we have known each other forever. I’m his male role model, a substitue for his absent father. He delights me with his innocence and interest in everything with which he comes into contact. I’m astonished at how quickly he grasps complex concepts and new language. He accepts me for who I am and doesn’t care that I’m ageing, balding, and that parts of me are starting to ache with arthritis, that I’m less tolerant and get cranky now and then.

When he gets real close and unexpectedly hugs me and says, “I love you Pop”, the thought passes my mind that I love my grandson so much I should have had him first. As if that were possible! He’s often on my mind when I fall to sleep.

When I wake up early, I prepare a pot of coffee, switch on my computer, get dressed in my exercise gear, hop on my bicycle and ride off into yet another beautiful Central Australian sunrise. My iPod fills my ears with my favourite music as I ride and my pulse quickens. The fresh, morning air fills my nostrils. The sky is typically cloudless and stark blue. I look at the ancient McDonnel Ranges with their blue, green hue and I’m filled with an overwhelming sense of fortune and happiness. And gratitude. Life is grand. How is it that I am so fortunate to be part of such a wonderful scheme?

On return home I switch on my coffee pot and check my email. I’ve only made eight sales overnight, but the day has just begun. I quickly delete the junk mail and after pouring my first cup of coffee answer the several legitimate emails that have arrived from clients. Soon after, I manage to get in a few minutes reading “The Australian” newspaper online. Within a few seconds, everyone else in our house seems to have arisen and my peace is shattered. But not to worry, they’ll all go away soon leaving Tory and me to ourselves.

Sure enough they do. My wife still does a few shifts as a midwife at the local hospital; daughter works 8-5 at her shop and I have the enviable task of preparing breakfast for my grandson and me and then dropping him off at school.

That done, my day is mine at least until 3.00 pm when I have to pick him up. What will I do today? A bit of writing, some reading and maintenance on my site? Or perhaps I’ll phone a mate and meet for coffee and a chat about the cost of living, high taxation and dysfunction of government policy. Ahh, if only I were Prime Minister for a day …. Maybe I’ll just do some housework. Who cares, I have few demands on my time now.

I sit in my comfortable chair, put my legs up onto a table to think about my agenda for today and I’m reminded of Richter’s words:

“Like a morning dream life becomes more bright the longer we live and the reason of everything appears more clear; what has puzzled us before seems less mysterious and the crooked paths look straighter as we approach the end”.

After 46 years of work, I figure I’ve deserved a rest.

Bankrolling

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

Unlike online poker, blackjack is a game of odds, and playing those odds means that you need to have enough of a bankroll to survive the fluctuations. It sounds simple enough, but as a regular poker player, this took me forever to learn. In college I would go into the casino with about fifty bucks, which adds up to ten five-dollar hands. This was leaving me sadly unprepared for the fluctuations that would occur even if I were playing smart (which I wasn’t back then). I’d play my hands out for a bit, but mostly I’m win one or two hands and then succumb to a minor losing streak that emaciated my already tiny bankroll. It’s a good thing the drinks were free or I would have had nothing to show for it.

If you are going to play blackjack and plan to actually win, it would be a good idea to bring along a winner’s bankroll. I’m not saying that you have to empty your savings account or get second mortgage, but you need to be able to survive those little unlucky streaks in order to get to the winning streaks and go home victorious.

When you go, like poker, bring enough money to play twenty or thirty hands. Depending on what stakes you play, that could be $20 or $2,000 plus, but twenty should be able to get you through most of the rough patches.

Using DVD and Video in Your ESL Class – Part Two

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

Have you ever wondered how to use video in your ESL classes, without just sitting your students down in front of the screen and hitting ‘Play’? Here are five more activities for you to try.

1 Vocabulary in context

Choose a scene (no longer than two or three minutes) with some dialogue rich in vocabulary. Make a worksheet with ten to twenty words that are used in the scene, or that describe the scene in some way. Give the worksheet to each pair of students and have them discuss some possible contexts in which the vocabulary might appear in a movie. (Giving students the context of the movie as a whole can make this task easier). Play your chosen scene once, asking students to listen for the contexts in which the vocabulary is used. Pairs can then compare their information and report back to you.

2 Subtitles

A big advantage of DVD over video is the subtitles feature. Playing a scene with subtitles in the students’ own language or in English is good for building confidence. Try playing it with the sound down first, letting them read the subtitles, then with the sound up, again reading the subtitles, and finally with the sound up and the subtitles turned off. Keep the extract you use to about two or three minutes.

3 News

If you have access to TV news in English, record a news story with plenty of visual footage. Play it with the volume off and have your students discuss in groups what they think the item was about. Then give them a pre-prepared list of vocabulary, containing words essential for understanding the story. Using this list and what they have seen, students reconstruct the story in pairs and report back to the group. Don’t forget to play it with the volume up at the end, so that students can compare their version with the original.

4 Cultures

This activity could be used in a conversation class about cultural differences. Find a short extract which shows a typical aspect of British culture, or American culture, or any culture you want to focus on! Have students discuss the differences between what they see and their own culture. Students do not necessarily need to understand the dialogue for this — the visual aspect of the cultural scene is usually enough.

5 Voices in my head

Choose a short scene with some interesting and expressive dialogue between two or more characters. Show the scene normally and check students’ comprehension. Put your students into groups, so that you have one group for each character in the scene. Their task is to imagine what is going on inside the head of their assigned character. Play the scene again, several times if necessary, for students to “get to know” their character, and have them work together to imagine his/her thoughts. Finally, play the scene once more, hitting “Pause” after each character has spoken, at which point the groups say what their character is thinking.

A short video sequence with a clearly focused activity is an effective and motivating way to bring variety to your ESL classes. Your students will go away with more than if you sit them down in front of the screen and hit ‘play’.
