Not Easy

Poker players have shown time and time again that anyone can be a winner. But not everyone will be a consistent winner. It’s a hard fact to accept for many aspiring players, but more people will crash and burn than will make it to the top. Let’s face it, if it were easy, everyone would be doing it.

Just like any other professional endeavor, to become one of the best take a lot of practice and perseverance. The best NFL running back didn’t just decide one day, “hey, I think I’m going to play professional football and rush for thousands of yards.”

Instead, he worked his way up the ladder, constantly training, pushing himself harder to get better, and learning from those better than him. And after years of this, he began to see the results. The same can be said for any aspiring poker online player. It’s not just going to fall in your lap. You have to work at it.

As several professionals put it: [for some] it may be better to just keep your day job.

Again, a harsh reality, but becoming a consistently winning poker online player takes, first, a degree of raw talent. After you realize you have that raw talent, you then have to refine it (this is the learning stage). From there, you have to move up accordingly. You don’t start winning consistently at 10NL and immediately jump into the 100/200 dollar hands in the nosebleed section.

This isn’t meant to deter anyone from shooting for the stars, but one must remember, when you’re giving it a shot, you have to keep your ego and ability in check. Play at your level, and when you have the funds, the strategy, and the confidence, then attempt to move to the next rung of the ladder. We weren’t made to fly, so trying to fly straight to the top will inevitably lead you smack into one of Newton’s most famous laws. “What goes up, must come down.”

So give it a go if you realize that you have talent, but be smart about it. Learn from the best, emulate them, and when you reach that level, then you will have people emulating you and taking your poker advice. But not until then.

With that said, let the cards fall where they may and keep on grinding.
