Laxton is a small rural village in Nottinghamshire, going back to 1066 and the Norman Conquest.

Visitors these days can see the site of the castle at the outskirts of Laxton, and witness the regions best preserved motte and bailey castle.

You can also see the lovely, and much better preserved, church that dates back from early 12th century and is still regularly used to this day.

Even so, what makes Laxton really special is its use today of the open field farming system.

This system is the last remaining open field system in England and you can walk the area yourself or take a tour with a local, which we will happily arrange if you want.
